Shaw began his career in telecommunications as a reporter and anchor for WNUS in Chicago. He later moved to Washington to work as an Oval Office journalist, then filled in as a reporter for the Westinghouse Broadcasting Company in Chicago.
From 1971 to 1977, he worked for CBS News in Washington. He joined the organization in 1977 as Latin America correspondent and department head before taking the Senior Capitol Hill position at ABC News in 1978.
Between 1992 and 2001, Shaw was a contributor to CNN’s Inside Politics before leaving the organization. He continued to appear on CNN in June 2005, co-hosting Judy Woodruff’s Late Show, and in May 2005, when a plane failed to enter the flight zone over Washington, DC.
