Is Erica really dead in Bo, you bitch? The identity of the ghost is explained

*Warning: spoilers in front of Boo, Bitch*

If there’s one genre in which Netflix excels, it’s teen drama and the latest entry in this category is Boo, Bitch.

The series tells the story of two BFFs whose plan to start life to the fullest is complicated when one of them, Jia, wakes up to find herself a ghost.

However, Erika can still interact with the world around her which has left fans of Boo, Bitch asking if she was really dead at all.

What is Boo, bitch about?

Released by Netflix on Friday, July 8, Boo, Bitch tells the story of BFFs Erika and Gia.

With their high school time coming to a close, the couple looks to seize their last chance to start living an epic life after passing school almost unnoticed.

The upcoming house party seems like the perfect opportunity to finally become bodies, but the pair’s plan is too complicated when Erica wakes up the next morning thinking she’s a ghost after finding a body trapped under a dead moose wearing her signature boots.

Erica’s apparent death is made even stranger by the fact that she is still able to walk, talk, and physically communicate with the living.

Is Erica really dead in Bo, you bitch?

No, Erica’s not actually dead in Boo, bitch.

“But then who was his body trapped under the moose and wearing Erica’s shoes?” We hear you ask.

The answer to that question is, in fact, Jia who has been revealed to be the Ghost in an astonishing twist.

In Episode VII, Jia finally revealed the truth to Erica when she explained that it was her body under the moose.

Jia reveals that she sacrificed herself by pushing Erica off the road when a car fell on the highway and was about to hit an unlucky moose.

She manages to hide the fact that she was the one who died by swapping her shoes for Erika’s signature shoes while in ghost form after Erica passed out.

Why didn’t Jia reveal her fate?

The reason Jia still appears as a ghost and keeps her fate a secret is because she has some unfinished business to attend to before she can pass it on.

Having vowed to live her life to the fullest before her death, Jia never gets this opportunity, and so she remains tied to her life on Earth until she fulfills this vow.

She is still able to text and interact with Erika and Gavin, who can see her since he is also a moderator.

In an effort to move forward, Gia helps Erica live her best life, which she succeeds in doing, keep kissing and dating her crush, making friends with the famous clique of girls and even becoming an influencer on social media.

However, Erica’s newfound fame blinds her to her best friend and she ends up with Gia.

But in a last-ditch attempt to reconcile with Jia, Erica steps up on stage during a concert to reveal that it was Jia who died and not her, causing all of her classmates to remember Jia, allowing her to move on to the afterlife.

Boo, Bitch is now available to stream Netflix After its launch on Friday 8 July 2022.
